The Town of Sunset Beach Town Council reported in open session that it "voted to ratify, affirm, and adopt the employment agreement between the Town of Sunset Beach and Lisa Anglin, with an effective date of 11/03/2025," Mr. Grady said.
Mr. Grady told the mayor and council that, during the closed session, "there was a motion made and seconded to authorize Mayor Pro Tem John Corbett to sign the employment agreement with Miss Anglin on behalf of the town," adding this action was proposed "in light of Mayor Phillips' refusal to sign the agreement." The report did not include a roll-call vote tally or identify who moved or seconded the ratification and authorization.
The open-session report followed a brief procedural vote to end the closed session earlier in the meeting; the presiding officer asked for a motion to come out of closed session, a second was recorded and members answered "Aye." After reporting the closed-session actions, the presiding officer asked for a motion to close the meeting; that motion also was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The council's report identifies the agreement's effective date as Nov. 3, 2025. The transcript does not provide the full text of the employment agreement, the vote tally on the ratification, or further explanation of Mayor Phillips' stated refusal to sign. The council then closed the meeting.
