Communications manager: City testing new emergency-alert platform after outage; residents urged to re-enroll
Summary
Valerie Wolford told the Public Safety Committee the city switched platforms after a recent outage, sent 3,700 test messages this week with roughly half delivered (likely landlines), and will run a voice test March 18 tied to the statewide tornado drill; she urged residents and local businesses to re-enroll.

Valerie Wolford, communications manager for the City of Green, told the Public Safety Committee the city switched its emergency-alert platform after an outage late last year and is running a series of neighborhood tests this week.
"I'm Valerie Wolford, communications manager for the city of Green, and I wanted to just give you an update on our emergency alert system," Wolford said, describing a quadrant testing plan that began at noon and will run through Friday.
Wolford said the system sent 3,700 messages in the first test and about half were delivered; she said the undelivered portion likely reflects landlines. She asked residents, workers and businesses that did not receive a text to re-enroll or update their contact information and explained that non-residents who work or do business in Green should register using their business address to receive geographically targeted alerts.
City staff will use multiple channels — text, email and the city newsletter — to encourage reenrollment, and Wolford said staff can manually enroll residents who lack internet access by calling the nonemergency dispatch during normal business hours. She also told council members the city will participate in the statewide March 18 tornado drill with a voice test to cell phones and landlines.
The committee did not take formal action; the update was informational and staff said they will continue testing and outreach.
