Cache County board certifies 2026 Republican primary after clerk reports no discrepancies in audit

"My name is Bryson Ben. I am the county clerk," Ben told the board as he outlined materials in the packet, including the WIC stat sheet, audit information and the results. He said the county audited 200 ballots as part of the process and found no discrepancies in reconciling vote histories.
Ben reported a 36.2% turnout, citing 40,465 active Republican voters and 14,636 ballots counted. Of those, he said 14,427 were vote-by-mail, with 147 in-person early voters and 43 vote-in-person (on an earlier count cited). He also reported five UOCAVA (overseas/military) ballots were counted and that 15 provisional ballots were issued, 14 of which were counted; one provisional ballot was not opened because the voter was registered as unaffiliated.
On ballot handling, Ben said roughly 75% of mail ballots are returned via drop boxes and that state code requires each city to provide a drop box. He described the county's process for handling challenged ballots: 307 ballots were challenged (for example, signature or number issues), 48 were rejected and the non-curable rate was about 15%, leaving a high curability and an overall provisional acceptance rate of 93.3%.
Ben read local race totals from the packet, including Blake Moore receiving 8,650 votes to Carrie Ann Visby's 5,807, and Jay Brett Chambers receiving 8,381 votes to Dane Murray's 6,035 in the county attorney contest.
After Ben's presentation, a committee member moved to "certify the 2026 Republican primary election." The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote; the Chair declared the certification unanimous and asked certifying members to sign the signature sheet supplied by county staff.
The board completed signature collection and then adjourned the canvass meeting.
Actions at the meeting were procedural and ministerial: the board voted to approve the meeting agenda at the start, and it formally voted to certify the Republican primary canvass after reviewing the clerk's report and audit. No further policy changes or directives were made.
