Elections staff told the board the county must hold a public hearing during the statutorily required 30-day public comment period for proposed voting precinct and polling-place changes and requested the board's permission to extend the comment period and set a hearing.
Mister Ryan asked for a board motion to extend the public comment period to March 25 and said the public hearing would be set for March 23 for the purpose of receiving comments; he said no action would be taken at that hearing. "We are required to have the public hearing during the public comment period," he said.
A motion to extend the public comment period to March 25 was made, seconded and the board voted unanimously to approve the extension; the clerk confirmed the hearing would be published and scheduled for March 23. Staff said they will publish the extension in the newspaper and accept comments through March 25.
