The Stephens County Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of two related rezoning requests submitted by Matthew J. Mudge and Tara Mudge.
Planning staff described Item 2 as a request to rezone a property at 520 North Avenue from residential single to agricultural residential and combine it with an adjoining parcel under common ownership. Item 3 was described as a rezoning of approximately 30.5 acres at 1200 Shady Lane from agricultural intensive (AI) to agricultural residential to allow combination under common ownership for agricultural use and to align with county comprehensive-plan goals.
A public commenter representing the applicants explained the practical reason for the requests, saying the property is currently mortgaged and "for my bank ... they will not break off the other part until that is combined into a single property under 1 mortgage," and described the applicants’ desire to "keep all of this in agriculture and property for myself, for my brother." No speakers appeared in opposition.
The Chair announced a motion and second to approve both items; the commission approved the motion by voice vote. The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Stephens County Board of Commissioners for final action at its July 28 meeting.
