Fullerton board approves several policy updates, appoints bond oversight member and initiates classified‑staff layoff process

During its March 10 meeting the Fullerton board advanced a cluster of governance and personnel actions.
Appointment and resolutions: The board appointed Joseph Simoa (staff recommendation) to fill a parent/guardian vacancy on the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee and adopted Resolution 25‑26‑11 authorizing designated district personnel to sign documents for the Orange County Superintendent of Schools; both actions passed by unanimous voice votes.
Layoffs initiation: Staff presented Resolution 25‑26‑10 to initiate layoffs of two classified positions (a food production manager and a wellness coordinator) because of reduced workload and the loss or change of prior grant funding; the board authorized the initiation of the layoff process following staff explanation of absorbed duties and potential reassignment options.
Policy updates: Trustees adopted revised board policies including BP 0450 (community and school safety plan), BP 1340 (access to district records), BP 5125 (student records with a minor punctuation correction noted in the meeting) and new/updated policies on behavioral health (BP 5143) and mental health supports (BP 5141.5). Staff told the board the safety plans will continue to be developed at school sites and submitted to the superintendent or designee for review before board approval.
Ad hoc bylaws committee: Trustees also agreed to form a small ad hoc committee to review the 9000 series of board bylaws; trustees Berryman and Hatchett were nominated and approved to serve on that committee.
Board members said they appreciated staff work on the policies and emphasized the need for clear site guidance and community involvement where required.
