Board approves annexation, advances zoning overlay and authorizes city attorney contract

At its Nov. 4 meeting the Smithville Board of Aldermen approved Bill No. 3085-25 annexing adjacent territory (5-1), advanced Bill No. 3087-25 on first reading (6-0), and approved Resolution 1526 to retain Williams & Campo for city attorney services (6-0).
The Smithville Board of Aldermen on Nov. 4 approved an annexation ordinance, advanced a zoning overlay ordinance on first reading and authorized a contract for city attorney services.
Alderman Marv Atkins moved to approve Bill No. 3085-25, annexing certain adjacent territory into the City of Smithville, Missouri; Alderman Dan Hartman seconded. By roll call vote, Alderman Chelsea Dana voted No and the remaining members voted Aye, giving the measure a 5-1 margin. Mayor Boley declared Bill No. 3085-25 approved on second reading.
Alderman Atkins then moved to approve Bill No. 3087-25, which would amend sections of Chapter 400 of the zoning code to authorize new overlay district regulations. Alderman Hartman seconded; there was no discussion and the roll call vote was unanimous, 6-0, passing the bill on first reading.
The board also approved Resolution 1526, authorizing the mayor to sign an agreement with Williams & Campo for city attorney services. Attorneys Padraic Corcoran and Jackson Auer were noted as present. The resolution passed unanimously.
None of the three items drew substantive public comment or extended debate during the meeting. The zoning measure (Bill No. 3087-25) will return for any required subsequent readings before final adoption; the annexation was approved on second reading as recorded. The meeting adjourned at 7:04 p.m.
