Altenburg board approves budget amendments, bills and operational items; sets graduation dates

The Altenburg District #48 Board of Education handled a range of routine operational items during its April 10 meeting at the APS music/art room.
The board approved the April bills as presented (motion by Cary Roth; second by Andrew Lichtenegger). The minutes record a 5–0 vote with President Jessica Hecht abstaining. The board also approved the budget outlook and amendments as presented (motion by Cary Roth; second by Andrew Lichtenegger), by a 6–0 vote.
The board approved the 2025–2026 student handbook and directed that copies be distributed by the end of the 2024–2025 school year (motion by Andrew Lichtenegger; second by Cary Roth). Graduation dates were set: kindergarten on May 13 at 6:00 p.m. and eighth grade on May 15 at 7:00 p.m.; the final day of school was set for May 16.
Transportation and facilities items included an update from Mrs. Debbie Haertling on bus inspections: Bus 1 required two new tires and Bus 2 passed inspection but will need two new tires this summer. The board authorized issuing small-bus bid letters (motion by Andrew Lichtenegger; second by Lindsay Palisch). The minutes record approval, 6–0.
The board also approved using MARE to assist in hiring a new principal/superintendent (motion by Andrew Lichtenegger; second by Brittany Hecht). Brittany Hecht reported on the Playground Committee and said the committee hopes to present its plans at the May meeting. President Jessica Hecht presented a letter from community member Luke Ponder; no board action on the letter is recorded in the minutes.
The regular session adjourned at 7:20 p.m. and the board then moved into closed session to discuss personnel and legal matters under Missouri statute 610.021(1) RSMo.
