ALTDENBURG DISTRICT #48 — The Altenburg District #48 Board of Education on Nov. 14 voted to hire a full‑time special education teacher and approved several routine financial and personnel measures.
The board convened at 6:30 p.m. in the district’s Art/Music Room. Superintendent Debbie Haertling reported on budget comparisons, teacher evaluations and an in‑progress audit; auditor Patrick completed coding work Nov. 13 and is scheduled to present the final audit at the December board meeting.
In formal business, the board approved the November bills as amended to correct billing entries related to TAG and Interstate Billing. The minutes record Richard Sachs as abstaining on that vote. The board also approved snow‑removal bid forms and a motion to hire a full‑time special education teacher after reviewing a letter from Special Education Director Kim Lohmann.
On staffing and compensation, the board approved a mid‑year stipend package that, according to the minutes, raises full‑time aide pay to match (text in the minutes is partially unclear) and increases all staff stipends by $25 for duties beyond contracted responsibilities. Board members discussed transportation and parent communications after several students were not picked up on days when PHS did not have school. Superintendent Haertling said she will notify parents when buses are running late. The board also discussed parking along Highway A in front of neighboring homes and agreed to place orange cones to discourage parking in those spots.
The board approved forming a playground committee; board members Brittany Hecht and Cary Roth were appointed to the committee. Hecht agreed to contact PTO President John Steffens and coordinate outreach to parents and staff through Mrs. Haertling and Ashley Steffens.
The regular session adjourned at 8:05 p.m., and the board then voted to enter closed session under RSMo 610.021(1) for consideration of personnel and certain legal matters. Roll call on the closed‑session motion is recorded as Yea for Richard Sachs, Amy Welker, Andrew Lichtenegger, Brittany Hecht and Lindsay Palisch.
The board minutes note that the auditor will return in December to present the final audit. No public comments were recorded at the meeting.
