Altenburg District #48 board approves special-education compliance plan, bus routes and playground retainer

The Altenburg District #48 Board of Education voted on routine business and several operational items during its Sept. 12 open session.
The board approved the meeting agenda as amended (motion by Andrew Lichtenegger; second by Richard Sachs) and approved both the open- and closed-session minutes from Aug. 8, 2024 (motions by Lindsay Palisch and Brittany Hecht, respectively). The treasurer's report was reviewed.
On financial business the board approved the September bills (motion by Lindsay Palisch; second by Amy Welker). The motion carried with five in favor and one abstention: board member Richard Sachs abstained.
The board approved the district's Local Compliance Plan for Special Education Services after a motion by Brittany Hecht and second by Amy Welker; the motion passed 6-0. The board also approved the proposed bus routes and separately authorized out-of-district students to be picked up or dropped off when they are on an existing route (motions by Brittany Hecht; second by Lindsay Palisch), both approved 6-0.
Under ESSER III spending, the board approved processing a retainer check to EC Concrete LLC to finish playground concrete (motion by Amy Welker; second by Brittany Hecht); the motion passed 6-0.
The board added three people to the 2024–25 substitute list — Mary Jane Fieser, Mark Gihring and Shannon Allison — on a motion by Brittany Hecht with a second from Amy Welker; approved 6-0. The meeting adjourned at 7:18 p.m. following a motion by Lindsay Palisch and a second from Amy Welker.
Next steps noted in the minutes include an on-site audit scheduled for Sept. 16 and staff follow-up on the district's technology schedule for a future meeting.
