Council approves downtown street closures for July cruise-in and September Dinner on Vance

The council approved two event street-closure requests intended to boost downtown activity.
Miss Kaye (S9), representing the Main Street promotion committee, requested closure of Main Street from Wall Street to Lisbon Street on Saturday, July 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. for a cruise-in and to coincide with the regular farmers’ market. "Our purpose again is to increase foot traffic downtown, hopefully, into our businesses," Miss Kaye said. The council moved and approved the closure.
Debbie Roberts (S5) requested approval for a Lowcountry Bowl 'Dinner on Vance' event on Sept. 20 that would close the west end of the courthouse parking lot and Vance Street from Fayetteville to Sampson streets; the request included a designated beverage area for attendees age 21 and over, 200 seats total, and tickets expected to go on sale Aug. 1 at 3 p.m. Council members thanked organizers and approved the request.
Council did not attach additional conditions in the transcript; staff will proceed with event permitting and logistics.
