Weber County approves $353,050 federal grant to support Medicaid reentry initiative at county jail

Weber County commissioners voted July 7 to approve an agreement with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services to accept a federal planning and implementation grant of $353,050 for the county jail.
County staff member Adeline told the board the funding is provided through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services under Section 206 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act and will run from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. She said the grant is intended to help the county implement Utah's Medicaid Justice-Involved Reentry Initiative, strengthen reentry infrastructure, coordinate corrections and community health providers, and support compliance with federal and state grant requirements.
A commissioner moved to approve the contract as presented; after a second, the board approved the request by voice vote. Commissioners thanked staff for the presentation and noted the grant will reduce some local funding pressure by leveraging federal resources for reentry programming and planning.
The approved contract covers planning and implementation activities; the county indicated the funds will be used for coordination between corrections, health-care providers and community partners and for grant-compliance activities. Detailed implementation tasks, reporting requirements and departmental assignees were not read into the record during the meeting.
