Board forms workplace-survey committee and adopts superintendent evaluation form
Summary
The board agreed to form a committee to design workplace surveys for staff and community and approved a superintendent/assistant-superintendent evaluation form (with a rubric) for future evaluations; the committee will present options at the April meeting.
Member Wade Wagley requested a workplace-survey discussion; the board debated frequency, anonymity and format. Administrators said surveys can be useful but noted risks to anonymity in a small district. Principal Marcy Harris said she will proceed with a high-school survey and bring results to the board. The board agreed to form a committee composed of the two principals, one staff member from each school and board members James Hughes and Wade Wagley to review survey options and present a recommended option at the April meeting. President Mike Sweetser moved the committee motion and Clerk Holly McCluskey seconded; Motion No. 84 passed by roll call.
Separately, the board discussed which superintendent-evaluation tool to use. President Sweetser and others said they found the ASBA form less satisfactory. Board members expressed a preference for a form titled "Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent Performance Evaluation Form" (pages 1-8) with a rubric added to the first page. Clerk Holly McCluskey moved to approve that form with the rubric and Member James Hughes seconded; Motion No. 85 passed on roll call.
Board members stressed the importance of question design and anonymity to obtain useful feedback. No specific survey vendor or instrument was selected; the committee will return to the board in April with a recommended option.
