Board approves spring coaches and notes new IVP fingerprint requirement for volunteers

Motion No. 82 (junior high) and Motion No. 83 (high school) passed on roll-call votes with President Mike Sweetser, Clerk Holly McCluskey, Member James Hughes and Member Wade Wagley voting yes; Pamela Harrington was absent.
Superintendent Eldon Merrell and the principals discussed recent law changes requiring an IVP fingerprint card for individuals at the school. The superintendent said the cards cost about $60 and are valid for six years, and noted that previously the district paid for volunteer background checks but the IVP requirement changes the process. Principal Marcy Harris said Wendy Ford will not be coaching and that the district is considering canceling track at the high school because of low participation.
The board did not alter staffing motions based on the IVP discussion; it approved the coaches as presented and asked administrators to follow required background procedures before volunteers serve.
