Tower council approves 300%–350% hike to ambulance billing rates

Interim Ambulance Supervisor Jen McDonough proposed the increase, saying it was the first rate adjustment since 2022 and that the change would not alter Medicare reimbursement rates. Beth Beik, joining the meeting by phone on behalf of EMS M/C, answered council questions during the discussion.
Councilor Bob Anderson moved the rate adjustment; Councilor Joe Morin seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Council records show the ambulance service handled 40 calls in February and that Sprint Medic has 20 calls year-to-date. The interim supervisor also noted the service will need four replacement radio/pager batteries and that three EMRs are currently enrolled in EMT training.
The council did not record dissenting votes. The motion instructs staff to reassess the rates after six months; no additional procedural steps or new ordinance numbers were referenced at the meeting.
