The Jupiter Town Council unanimously approved a special‑exception and site‑plan amendment for the Piatt Public Safety Marina and Park on March 3, authorizing a phased project that includes a five‑slip public‑safety dock, a riverwalk connection and an overlook.
Garrett Watson, planning staff, described the phase‑1 scope as a public‑safety dock with five slips and a riverwalk loop behind a recently approved fire station. "This project before you tonight is ... a phased project, with the final phasing to be determined by you, the town council, through future policy decisions, as well as upcoming meetings and the CIP budgeting process," Watson said.
Staff said the design intentionally selects narrow portions of mangrove fringe and seagrass to minimize impacts and that any unavoidable impacts would be mitigated as part of environmental permitting with state and federal agencies. Council asked whether benches or railings could be added to the overlook and whether moored boats near the site would have to be moved; staff said benches could be added and confirmed there are proximity rules for moored vessels around public facilities.
The planning and zoning commission had recommended approval unanimously, and council approved Resolution 38‑26 without objection. The project team said they will return with additional grant‑ and funding‑related items and amendments as permitting and design advance.
