Genesee County approves contracts and a $67,000 weatherization reallocation; officials highlight recycle center reserves

On the financial update, S5 told the commission the county has $3,600,000 reserved for recycle center activities and a separate $900,000 state grant for construction; additional revenue is expected during the year. S5 also said the county has received Mott Foundation funding that appears in planning fund balances (S5 noted a recent $3,500,000 grant from the Mott Foundation earmarked for community projects such as trails).
Separately, staff presented a budget transfer that decreases weatherization revenue by $67,000 and reallocates those dollars to other areas to support ramping up a newly adopted weatherization program. S5 said the county is recruiting for two positions, must complete several months of staff training before accepting clients, and expects at least one more reallocation this fiscal year. "So there's a decrease of $67,000, and then the expenditures are decreased as well across the board," S5 said. Commissioners approved the reallocation by voice vote.
