Consultants outline building-inspection support as Thorntown begins year-long UDO update

Dave Taylor and Jim Barrett of TLM Consulting Group presented their firm's capabilities at the Thorntown Town Council meeting on Aug. 19, offering to help the town with residential and commercial inspections, review existing ordinances and policies, and support the Building Inspector in building departmental capacity.
The presentation arrives as MS Consulting begins work on a unified development ordinance (UDO) for Thorntown. Oksana Polhuy of MS Consulting told the council the UDO project will take about a year, will create new zoning districts, and will include a timeline that calls for several public meetings so residents can provide input. Council President Sara Fairfield said the council should be proactive and asked that Oksana provide regular updates when decisions are required.
TLM's pitch focused on technical support to improve inspection coverage and to recommend policy or procedural changes that could accommodate local growth. MS Consulting's work on the UDO, by contrast, centers on zoning and land-use policy: Oksana said she will coordinate closely with the Advisory Plan Commission and seek public feedback before proposed changes are finalized.
The council did not receive public comments on the presentations. Next steps reported at the meeting include ongoing coordination between MS Consulting and the APC, and periodic briefings to the council as the UDO process advances.
