Middletown receives progress reports on new middle/high school and Valley Elementary

The council received consolidated updates from town staff on school construction across multiple projects.
Town project staff reported that the new combined middle and high school (Gilbane as construction manager) is generally ahead of schedule in Buildings A and C: masonry, roof insulation, ductwork and rough mechanical work are progressing and interior framing and equipment-selection work is under way. Staff said furniture procurement and many interior packages are on track for bidding and that the schedule has slipped in some areas but, overall, the project remains on budget.
Valley Elementary’s Phase 2 work is also progressing: about 80% of the planned summer demo has been completed, roof demo is largely done, prep work in the cafeteria and gym is nearly complete, sprinkler main lines are being installed and an elevator shaft area has been prepared. Staff noted Rhode Island Energy incentives are funding the building management control (EMS) system rather than the bond. Councilors asked clarifying questions about timelines and scope and staff said contracts, bids and selections will follow established procurement steps.
