The Clifton Design and Review Board voted unanimously Feb. 19 to forward the cultural resources element of the city's comprehensive plan to the planning commission after members suggested edits and requested additions.
Board member Slice praised the redrafted language and urged stronger material standards, saying, "I just want to applaud Mister Lindler for upgrading this language and, I think, making things more uniform, and it looks like a great improvement." Plan Director Phil confirmed staff will provide additional information the board requested.
The board highlighted several specific edits: language on page 13 that requires replacement materials to "match or exceed the quality" of original materials, wording on page 14 that underscores maintaining architectural consistency, and a request to itemize nonhistorical markers listed on page 6. Slice also asked that Revolutionary War sites around Clifton be added under "unique natural and scenic resources" on page 7; Plan Director Phil said he has the information from the prior meeting and will supply it for the planning commission's draft.
Chair moved to forward the cultural resources element with the noted corrections and input; board member Chris Moore made the motion and Slice seconded. The motion passed by voice vote with no opposition. The board did not record a roll-call vote in the transcript; the item will proceed to the planning commission for its review alongside the other comprehensive plan elements.
Plan Director Phil said a work session on the next section of the design guidelines will follow the meeting to continue drafting.
