Thorntown council meeting: Park Board chamber membership approved; routine minutes and memorandum passed; Jeff Wolfe proposal tabled

The Thorntown Town Council approved several routine items during its Feb. 17, 2025 meeting at Thorntown Town Hall.

Park Board member Sarabi Wallace asked the council to authorize Park Board membership in the Boone County Chamber of Commerce, citing grant opportunities and networking. Councilor Sara Fairfield moved to pay the $195 membership fee from the General Fund Dues/Membership Fees account; Shawn McClintock seconded and the motion passed 5-0.

Bruce Burtner moved to approve the minutes of the Feb. 3, 2025 meeting with a correction to note approval of Resolution 2025-2 (auto transfers); Randy Bruder seconded and the motion passed 5-0. The council then approved a memorandum from the Feb. 10 executive meeting on a motion from Bruce Burtner, seconded by Sara Fairfield, which also passed 5-0.

Utility Superintendent Gary Moody reported there is not yet a definitive cost estimate for running electric service to the Westfall Place subdivision. Don Gray reported the Advisory Plan Commission discussed Westfall Place addressing and said Marcellus Johnson of MS Consultants attended the APC meeting; the APC plans to use four-digit house numbers. Arbor Home has received its INDOT permit, the minutes state.

Council discussed a proposal from Jeff Wolfe to assist the town with future municipal endeavors. Council President Dave Williams said Wolfe could be an asset; the Clerk/Treasurer advised that Public Safety LIT funds would need to be used for safety expenses to free up General Fund money for a contract. The council voted to table consideration of the proposal until the March 3 meeting.

With no other business, Councilor Sara Fairfield moved to adjourn at 7:40 p.m.; Shawn McClintock seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
