Cumberland renews IT services contract with Retrofit Technologies after council questions data restoration

The Cumberland Town Council approved resolution 26‑19 on July 7 to renew the town’s contract with Retrofit Technologies for managed IT services, Microsoft licensing and Barracuda security, voting 5–0 after a vendor presentation and questions about a recent data‑restoration incident.
Chris Cosgroin, account manager for Retrofit Technologies, told the council the company provides help‑desk support, server and network management, security monitoring (SIEM), backups and one weekday of on‑site support each week. "We provide basically help desk support for all of your users throughout the town and also the police department," Cosgroin said, summarizing the scope of ongoing services.
Councilors asked about a period during budget season when some historical finance data was temporarily inaccessible and took more than a week to restore. Cosgroin said he would investigate why restoration took that long and offered to return to the council with a technical resource. "I would actually have to inquire with our team why that happened," he said.
Finance staff explained that data prior to 2020 had been stored locally on individual desktops before a cloud migration and described the recovery as a reconstruction of archived records; the finance representative said that access has been reestablished on a side server. "As of right now, we do have access to it, and it is on its own kind of side server to keep it safe," the finance staff member said.
After the exchange, Councilor Shaw moved to approve the resolution; Councilor McGill seconded and the council approved the contract renewal by a vote of 5–0. Cosgroin said Retrofit will provide a technical resource at next week’s meeting to explain the restoration steps and preventive measures.
