County Clerk Brian briefed the court on farm license plates and a new option called the "Friends of Agriculture" plate. He said traditional farm plates are restricted to vehicles used in agribusiness and the state has been lax in enforcement; motor vehicle licensing will begin enforcing the rules more strictly.
To give residents an option, a "Friends of Agriculture" plate is now available to any vehicle owner whether or not they operate a farm. The county clerk said the new plate is personalizable, carries a $10 voluntary donation that supports Kentucky Proud, 4-H and FFA, and will renew in the registrant's birth month — a convenience for residents. Brian encouraged anyone uncertain about which plate is appropriate to visit the clerk's office for assistance.
Magistrates asked if there was an acreage requirement; Brian replied there is none, and that the Kentucky Department of Agriculture determines agribusiness eligibility. He said county staff will assist residents who need to change plates to avoid enforcement problems.
