Shrewsbury Board approves three first-reading ordinances, confirms Ward 2 alderman and park board appointments

The Shrewsbury Board of Aldermen met March 11, 2025, and unanimously approved first readings of three ordinances while completing several routine appointments and approvals.
Mayor Mike Travaglini called the meeting to order. The board first approved minutes from the Feb. 25 work session and the Feb. 28 special meeting following motions by Alderperson Bette Welch and Alderman John Odenwald.
On ordinances, Alderman Beth Parker moved the first reading of Bill No. 4041, which authorizes the mayor to execute a contract with St. Louis County for vector abatement services; the motion passed unanimously. Alderperson Welch moved the first reading of Bill No. 4042, a measure sponsored by Parker, Alderman Ben Stark and Alderperson Welch to create the position of city administrator and describe its roles and responsibilities; that motion also passed unanimously. Alderman Ben Stark moved the first reading of Bill No. 4043, authorizing the mayor to execute an agreement with SCI Engineering, Inc.; Alderman John Odenwald seconded, and the motion passed unanimously on first reading.
The board approved the nomination of Jacob Riley to serve as Ward 2 alderman after a motion from Alderman John Odenwald, seconded by Alderman Ben Stark; the agenda indicates Riley was sworn in following the board's approval. The board also approved a purchase request for emergency generator repairs (moved by Alderperson Bette Welch, seconded by Alderman John Odenwald) and authorized the city to apply for a Hazardous Moving Violation Grant (moved by Alderman John Odenwald, seconded by Alderman Beth Parker); both were approved by unanimous voice vote.
