The Shrewsbury Park Board reviewed an updated Municipal Park Grant plan from consulting firm SWT that adds lawn and green space and relocates a proposed new tennis court against an existing retaining wall. SWT told the board that the updated design includes stormwater features — a bioswale, turf swale and a bioretention basin — that require review and approval by MSD before the project can move forward.
SWT said it plans to submit the revised plans to MSD in early March; SWT estimated MSD's review and approval process would take a few months, which adds costs to the original plan. SWT said it will prepare a request for proposals and issue the RFP only after MSD approval and that bid responses will be returned to the Parks Board for review.
Board members were given a revised timing estimate: construction would start after Labor Day and take approximately two to four months, with the overall goal of completing the work in 2025. The board did not provide dollar amounts or funding sources for the increased costs during the meeting.
Next steps: SWT will submit plans to MSD in early March and, pending MSD approval, prepare an RFP for the project. The board will review bids when they are returned; no formal contract awards or funding votes were recorded at this meeting.
