At its March 3 meeting the Town of Thorntown Council approved hiring municipal consultant Jeff Wolfe and moved budget funds to cover start-up expenses. Sara Fairfield moved to hire Wolfe pending final legal review of the contract, with the contract not to exceed $40,000 for one year; Bruce Burtner seconded the motion, which passed 5-0.
Separately, Council President Dave Williams proposed using $10,000 from the Deputy Clerk wage line to help pay for consulting services rather than transferring customary police and fire expenses into the Public Safety LIT fund. Gary Coffman seconded that motion; it passed 5-0.
Council members discussed the desire to preserve General Fund flexibility and avoid shifting ongoing operating expenses into the Public Safety LIT. The meeting minutes show the council approved the consultant hire subject to final legal review and set a not-to-exceed amount for the contract. No amendments to the proposed cap were recorded.
