Orchard View board approves personnel changes, names MAISD delegates and spotlights school achievements

At its March 16, 2026 meeting, the Orchard View Schools Board of Education approved the March personnel change form and confirmed delegates for an upcoming MAISD budget review, while also hearing school reports and announcing upcoming events.
The personnel changes were approved on a 5-0 vote (motion by Trustee C. Bankhead, support by Trustee J. Eggeman). The board also acknowledged Leslie Nelson as the district’s representative and Board President T. Joppie as the alternate for the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) Budget Review scheduled for April 23, 2026 (motion by J. Taylor, support by J. Eggeman; carried 5-0).
Superintendent Tom Hamilton reported that the district recently held a full-day professional development session and said Orchard View was the first district in the county to run a para boot camp in cooperation with MAASE. Principals highlighted classroom and extracurricular updates: Megan Johnson (Orchard View Early Elementary) described a parent whose child made substantive progress in behavior supports; Joshua Smith (Orchard View Middle School) noted hiring activity for middle school coaches; Samantha Wilson (Orchard View High School) said the high school will host the World Sports program with former professional athletes speaking to students.
The board recognized Student of the Month honorees across schools and programs including Mackenzie Baker (OVEE) and Carter O’Brien (OVHS). Director Nick Kunnen said the Innovative Learning Center has revised its Learner Profile and is developing scales with Knowledge Works. Director Brandy Carey recounted a staff response that helped a young student celebrate a birthday. E'lyse Benson reported that Orchard View had four Destination Imagination teams at the state level; one team advanced to globals.
Superintendent Hamilton also announced calendar items and events: the Muskegon County School Board Dinner on April 30 (RSVP to Gretchen), ILC Graduation on May 28 (speaker J. Wydeck), OVHS Graduation on May 31 (speaker L. Nelson), Spring Break April 3–10, and the FIRST Robotics competition at OVHS March 20–21.
