On Jan. 21 the Rolla City Council voted 6–5 to authorize administration to begin the process to remove fluoride from the city's water and to publish the required 90‑day public notice. Councilwoman Megan Johnson moved the action; Rob Kessinger seconded. The ayes were Johnson, Nathan Chirban, Victoria Steen, Mattias Penner, Tina Balch and Rob Kessinger; the nays were Steve Jackson, Matt Fridley, Joshua Vroman, William Hahn and Kevin Greven.
City Administrator John Butz initially brought the item to the agenda for discussion of the future of city water fluoridation. Council members asked procedural and implementation questions during the discussion. Councilman Rob Kessinger later indicated he had been unaware of the 90‑day public notice requirement prior to the discussion. Administration will publish the 90‑day notice and then present an ordinance for council consideration (first reading) after the notice period.
