Council authorizes $68,000 contract increase for owner's-rep services on public building project

The Nixa City Council approved a contract amendment March 10 that raises the city's not-to-exceed amount for owner's-representative services with Navigate Building Solutions from $400,000 to $468,446.74.
Police Chief Joe Campbell presented the request and said the project's timeline has shifted, pushing the anticipated completion from a projected September to December. As a result of the extended schedule and an added pre-construction and construction-services piece, staff asked the council to raise the contract cap by roughly $68,446.74. "We would be exceeding the 400,000, and we would like to see that go to $468,446.74 to be exact," Campbell said. He also noted a $19,000 pre-construction and construction-services agreement included in the amendment.
Council members asked about contractual penalties for missed deadlines and whether adding a storage building now made sense financially. Staff said the prime contract contains benchmarks and substantial-completion dates that can trigger penalties and that building storage now — and while funds are appropriated — avoids higher future costs associated with retrofitting.
A motion to approve the contract amendment was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff said they expect the change to cover the additional owner's-representation months without requiring further amendments if the project proceeds on the revised timeline.
