Local candidates and a state school board member address St. Clair County Commission

Several visitors and candidates were recognized and given time to address the commission.

Walter Lewis, who said he works for investment firm Piper Sandler and has lived in the county since 2000, introduced himself and offered his firm's services on bond and financing matters. "I'd love an opportunity to do some work here," Lewis said, describing his experience in municipal finance.

Bree Mann, introduced as a member of the State Board of Education from the district that includes St. Clair County, told commissioners she supports career technical education and cited statewide education improvements. Mann said Alabama now has "more than 90% of our students graduating from high school" and noted gains in state rankings since she joined the board.

Katrina Hennings, a lifelong St. Clair County resident and former Springville city council member, introduced her candidacy and described her real-estate and infrastructure experience, saying that background helps her understand local planning and service needs. Hennings asked commissioners to consider her for the seat on May 19 and said she can work constructively with other officials.

Commissioners welcomed the guests and noted the role of local engagement and civic institutions; no formal votes resulted from the visitor remarks beyond recognition and standard candidate introductions.
