Supervisors approve road equipment purchases, seasonal schedules and preparatory work for spring projects

Crawford County supervisors approved several road-related items and equipment purchases in the March 3 meeting. The board unanimously approved a letter of understanding with the Crawford County Secondary Road bargaining unit to implement an alternate seasonal schedule from May 8 through September 10. The action was moved and seconded as part of consent motions.
The board also approved purchase of a 2023 CAT D5 from Ziegler CAT for $199,500 with a trade-in (noted in the minutes) valued at $90,000; payment is planned in FY2027 pending budget approval. The motion passed unanimously. Supervisors additionally approved 2026 dust-collector/applicator agreements with four contractors; that motion also passed unanimously.
Road and bridge staff briefed the board on planned spring activities, including test sections for asphalt (HMA) to supply binder-content samples, tree removal and localized grading, and planned bridge work. Staff said roadside crews would resume April 6 (weather-permitting) and would inspect equipment and begin seeding and ditching as conditions allow. The board directed staff to monitor underlying issues for specific road segments noted by supervisors and to coordinate with contractors on test-section timing.
The board recorded motions and roll-call votes where appropriate; all items in this set of road actions passed without recorded dissent.
These actions are part of the county’s road-maintenance and equipment-replacement program; payments and project starts remain subject to final budget approvals and seasonal conditions.
