Teacher warns cuts at Tigers/Fredericks Valley would shrink course offerings and raise class sizes

Samuel Everson, introduced by the chair as the first witness of the evening, asked for an open hearing and described how staff reductions would change course availability at his building. Everson presented enrollment counts and teacher-to-class calculations and said that removing two regular education positions would push average class sizes from roughly 18 toward the low-to-mid 20s and force the school to reduce or eliminate certain high-school-level offerings.
"If two regular education positions are removed... you end up with either 20 or 21 classrooms running at any one time... If both positions are cut, you're gonna look at 20 students in a class," Everson told the board. He said losing his role could limit dual-credit opportunities and eliminate middle-school enrichment classes.
Jason Rogers, representing Education West Virginia, told the board Everson’s presence on transfer status means he is guaranteed placement and urged the board to consider the broader impacts of moving staff: "Keeping him here makes all of that possible," Rogers said.
Board members questioned Everson about specific class counts and which courses would be lost; Everson provided per-period numbers and administrators agreed to follow up with staffing and scheduling clarifications at the next meeting.
