The House Children and Youth Committee voted to report House Resolution 451, sponsored by Representative Curry, which designates April 11–17, 2026, as Black Maternal Health Week in Pennsylvania to draw attention to the maternal-health crisis affecting Black women.
Representative Curry said the observance is about both awareness and accountability, and noted the work that brought the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus together. "Black Maternal Health Week is not just about awareness. It is about accountability," she said, urging an affirmative vote.
Danielle summarized the measure and noted that the Pennsylvania affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives supports the resolution. Brooke called the roll and the chair announced the ayes are 19 and the nays are 6; the resolution was reported as committed.
No amendments were adopted in committee and no formal motions to re-refer were successful.
