During the non-agenda public-comment period on March 24, parents raised two community concerns: the absence of the Junior Explorers summer program at Midland this year and the district’s inability to field a girls softball team.
Board minutes state the Junior Explorers program — an outside vendor that rents district space — will not operate at the school this summer because a third party has initiated legal proceedings involving both the district and the vendor. The board said it is not opposed to discussing a future return but that the matter is under legal review.
Separately, parents expressed disappointment that there is no girls softball team this year. Administrators said there was no league to join; one parent offered to coach and the administration said it would reach out to locate possible opponents so students can play.
The board noted it will consider options but said decisions linked to litigation and third-party contracts are constrained until those matters are resolved.
