Russell Drexler, a Brandon resident at 1604 B South Sioux Boulevard, told the council he and his neighbors had not been kept informed about construction that he said would begin on Ironwood the following Monday. “We have no idea what's going on,” Drexler said, adding that neighbors expected a meeting beforehand.
Mayor Buck and staff responded that the project resulted from a public vote in Brandon and described the work as a public safety improvement. Mayor Buck said the city is covering the majority of costs — “the city, in this case, is paying 85%, 81 or 82 of the total cost,” — and arranged an on‑site meeting with staff and Drexler for 5:30 a.m. the next morning to review property lines and concerns.
Drexler warned that once the road improvements are complete, traffic could increase near local amenities, saying the nearby ball field and ice rink could bring heavy weekend traffic. He asked whether residents would have a pre‑construction meeting; staff and a council member confirmed the on‑site meeting and that staff (Craig) would attend.
The comment period exchange did not result in a council action changing project scope or funding; council reiterated the project’s public approval history and described the meeting as an opportunity to walk the right‑of‑way and address neighbor concerns.
What happens next: staff and the resident are to meet on site the following morning to review property and construction logistics. The council did not amend the project or funding in this meeting.
