Greenbelt seeks grant to buy Hoyt Farm for conservation in Merrimac

If the grant is approved, Greenbelt would complete the purchase and the land would be held in a conservation restriction. "Greenbelt has applied for a grant and will know by the end of the year if the purchase will go through," Johnson-Hall said. Commission members discussed whether the conservation restriction would be held by the Conservation Commission and raised questions about the details of the restriction and long-term stewardship.
Commissioners did not take a formal vote on the proposal. The next steps are for Greenbelt to await the grant decision and for the commission to continue discussions about the terms and the holder of the restriction if the purchase proceeds.
