Union City Borough Council unanimously approved multiple infrastructure contracts, a Right-to-Know policy update and a resolution to pursue Broadband Ready Community designation during its July 23 meeting at First Global Methodist Church.
The council voted to accept Mansfield’s $5,000 quote for pipe repair and reconnection at a sinkhole in Municipal Lot No. 1, with the borough supplying pipes and fittings estimated at $5,000. Councilor James Kerns moved the approval and Councilor Steadman seconded; all five councilors present voted yes.
Councilors also awarded the Devereaux Park/French Creek Trail project to Vavala Concrete, which submitted the low bid of $84,774. Councilor Osborn moved to award the contract and Councilor Steadman seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Solicitor Wachter recommended clarifying language on anonymous requests in the borough’s Right-to-Know Rules and Regulations. Councilor Osborn moved to approve the recommended updates and Councilor Steadman seconded; the council approved the amendment unanimously.
On broadband, councilors noted a public meeting held earlier that had no attendees and voted to adopt a resolution authorizing an application to the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) for Broadband Ready Community designation and appointing the Erie Area Council of Governments (Erie Area COG) as the borough’s Municipal Broadband Champion. Councilor James Kerns moved the resolution and Councilor Melissa Winkler seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
