Resident urges Winfield officials to clarify snow-response procedures and communications

During the public-comment portion of the Feb. 2 Winfield Township Committee meeting, Trisha Donahue (Riverview; WMHC Manager) described difficulties residents experienced during recent cold and icy weather and asked who the township safety manager is and when plowing and car-moving would occur.
Donahue said residents were "inundated with calls" and that some had nowhere to move cars when roads and parking became hazardous; she asked for a meeting to discuss existing township ordinances and emergency procedures and said she would forward an updated list of residents to township officials. The transcript records her asking explicitly about ownership of curbs and whether ordinances were being enforced or clarified for winter conditions.
Mayor Adam D. Koomer responded that he wants to meet with the WMHC board president and said he had discussed the issue with the police chief and the Office of Emergency Management. Commissioner Joseph P. Byrne suggested using the township's reverse 911/phone-tree capabilities to better relay urgent messages to residents. Commissioner Robert A. Carsey noted prior use of OPRA to obtain ordinances and said posting ordinances on the township website is an option to improve access.
Donahue also requested a sewer update; the mayor provided an update on that item during the forum. Officials did not set a public date for the requested meeting during this session but agreed to coordinate with the WMHC board president and to encourage residents to sign up for township notification services.
