City seeks wastewater planning grant and dam inspection; police announce $50,000 violence‑prevention grant

Dave Rambo of the Water and Sewer Department told the council the department plans to apply for an Environmental Facilities Corporation engineering planning grant to study sewer inflow and infiltration. "When it rains, we see our pumping stations running a lot longer," Rambo said, explaining the operational impacts of inflow and infiltration and the need for a planning study that could position the city for future capital funding.
Rambo also described the statutory requirement for a 10‑year engineering assessment of city dams and summarized the recent RFP responses for that study, noting the lowest responsive bid and that funds for dam maintenance exist in the city's dam‑maintenance line.
Separately, Chief Fenwick reported the Peekskill Police Department received a $50,000 grant from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, applied for through Senator Harcum’s office, to support community‑based violence‑intervention programming and necessary equipment for the contract period 05/01/2026–04/30/2027.
Next steps: staff will apply for the planning grant and return with grant recommendations and contract approvals as required; dam engineering work will be procured consistent with the RFP results and available maintenance funds.
