School board advances $311.3 million FY27 funding request to the Board of Supervisors

The Albemarle County School Board voted to advance its FY27 funding request, a balanced funding packet the division says totals about $311.3 million in projected expenditures, to the Board of Supervisors for consideration.
Maya Kumazawa, director of budget and planning, presented the funding request and said it meets the board’s six budget goals, is balanced against projected shared revenues, and was developed after three work sessions and extensive Q&A. Kumazawa told the board staff had posted 173 questions and answers and that community engagement on the funding request was higher than in prior cycles.
Miss Lee moved the funding request forward and Dr. Acuff seconded; the board approved the motion and the request will be filed with the Board of Supervisors ahead of the supervisors’ budget proposals. Kumazawa reminded members the Board of Supervisors will propose a maximum tax rate and budget on March 18; the school board’s funding request will be presented to the supervisors at 5 p.m. on Monday in Room 241.
Board members emphasized that the funding request is not the final school budget. The board will continue public engagement in upcoming meetings and will act on the final school budget after the Board of Supervisors approves its budget and tax rate in April.
