The Woodland Park Board of Education on Nov. 6 authorized district officials to enter an agreement with Premiere Marketing LLC doing business as Transparent Energy to further develop a districtwide solar project.
The board approved a resolution directing the business administrator to execute a Letter of Authorization and Exchange Agreement to allow the company to gather site information and specifications. The motion passed by roll call vote, 5–0.
The resolution framed solar as a way to promote sustainability, reduce energy costs and serve as an instructional tool. Karen Criscione, president of the Woodland Park Education Association, asked whether panels would be placed at all schools and where they would be located. Paul Murphy said the authorization is preliminary "for the company to gather information and specifications. No work will be done without a further vote," emphasizing that the board had not authorized installation.
Board members emphasized the preliminary nature of the vote during discussion; the resolution does not commit funds or authorize construction. Next steps identified in the motion include the company completing site surveys and returning with detailed proposals and specifications subject to later board approval.
The board's action does not set an installation timeline or budget; those items will be determined in any subsequent contract brought back to the board for approval.
