Goshen City group plans Indigenous Peoples' Day as part of First Fridays

The committee said it will incorporate an Indigenous Peoples' Day program into the citys First Fridays events in early October and move the program outdoors near the Ignition Garage to make it more accessible to the public.
The Chair said, "As you know, historically, that's been at the Goshen Theater until last year. We moved it to outside of Ignition Garage, so it could be kind of more open to the public." The Chair added they would meet this week with Amanda Rose of First Fridays to discuss possibilities, and that the theater had expressed interest in maintaining a presence.
Members discussed possible locations and logistics, including using a stage or flatbed to raise performers for visibility. The Chair said they have been coordinating with Matt Schrock about an East Ocean walkabout in August or September and listed potential venues including Abshire Park and the Pumpkin Pine Trail. The committee agreed to keep circulating calendar invites and confirmed several events already.
The Chair said they have begun outreach to the Potawatomi and had not yet heard back: "I literally did not know that they were coming until about 10 minutes before the show last year," the Chair said, describing last year's logistical challenge. Next steps include the Chairs meeting with Amanda Rose and continued outreach to potential presenters and community partners.
