Police Chief David Pernice recommended hiring Kenneth Fye, saying Fye had passed civil service testing and background checks and that the chief "has nothing but good comments about him." The Civil Service Commission had provided a certified list with only one candidate meeting requirements and recommended Fye. Councilor Steadman moved to hire Fye but the motion died for lack of a second; the chief asked how to inform the applicant and council agreed to discuss the matter again at a future meeting.
Separately, the Personnel Committee recommended Mark Zigler for Code Enforcement Officer. A retroactive motion to appoint Zigler (moved by Councilor Osborn and seconded by Councilor Joyce) carried, with Councilor Uber opposed because he said the appointee should reside in the borough. Minutes show Zigler is available to begin training on July 12 and to start actual duties on July 29, 2024.
The council tabled no further immediate hiring decisions for sworn personnel and moved into an executive session following adjournment to discuss personnel matters (no action taken).
