Woodland Park Board approves $1.31M in bills, personnel changes and shared-services police agreements; votes to terminate one employee

The Woodland Park Board of Education on Dec. 11 approved routine finance and personnel business, including a bill list totaling $1,310,266.41 and multiple staff appointments and grant reassignments, and adopted revised shared-services agreements to provide school law-enforcement officers.
In a single consent and regular-agenda sequence the board approved monthly Secretary and Treasurer reports, detailed account transfers for September and October 2023, and the November bill list. Finance committee chair Jairo Rodriguez certified the bill list, which the board approved on a roll-call vote. The minutes list Bill List No. 66 at $1,254,756.57 and #L66 at $55,509.84, for a combined total of $1,310,266.41.
The board approved several personnel items as a block (motions 224-210 through 224-223). Appointments included the hire of Barbara Wells as a school nurse at $54,000 per year (pro-rated, no benefits) and the appointment of a math teacher, substitute custodians and part-time aides. The board ratified family-leave requests, stipend payments (including a $250 spelling-bee coordinator stipend), and workshop/travel reimbursements. The board also approved revisions charging $273,241 of staff salaries and related pension/FICA benefits to the 2024 ESEA grant as listed in the minutes.
On security and safety, the board approved revised interlocal shared-services agreements with the Borough of Woodland Park to provide a Special Class II officer to the district at an annual cost of $30,614.60 and to provide up to five Special Class III officers at costs up to $25,202.60 each (total not to exceed $126,013.33) for the 2023–24 school year.
A separate personnel motion (224-30A) to terminate employee ID#4692 carried on a roll-call vote of 7 YES and 2 abstentions (Shannon Marren and MaryAnn Perro). The termination is effective Jan. 9, 2024, according to the resolution text recorded in the minutes.
Other routine items the board approved included revisions to personnel charged to the 2024 ESEA grant, approval of the 2024 BOE meeting dates, and the adoption of district financial transfers recorded in the minutes. The board also affirmed the District Performance Review for submission to the New Jersey Department of Education under N.J.A.C. 6A:30-3.1(e).
