Superintendent reports preschool recognition, curriculum adoption and student supports

Superintendent Michele Pillari used the Nov. 20 meeting to provide updates on curriculum, preschool recognition and several student supports across the Woodland Park schools.
Pillari said the district’s PreSchool Program was recognized as a High Quality Preschool and described a professional exchange with Teaching Strategies and educational leaders from Biñan, Philippines, on implementing The Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD. She reminded families that NJ requires flu vaccinations for children ages 6–59 months by Dec. 31, 2023, and that children lacking documentation or valid exemptions will be excluded until the end of flu season on March 31.
The Board adopted the Atlas digitized curriculum platform to serve as a centralized, up-to-date curriculum repository. Pillari also reported on instructional supports: the Do the Math intervention is in use with small groups, i-Ready coaching and learning walks are underway, and grades 6–8 received assemblies and presentations including a vaping prevention presentation by Professor Doug Collier. The Student Council organized food and toy drives for Eva's Village and Toys for Tots.
Board members framed these items as instructional and community engagement priorities ahead of QSAC and continued curriculum work for K–5 social studies and science resources.
