Thorntown hears $148,005 well-drilling quote and $2 million electrical-service estimate for Westfall Place

Council members were told a Peerless Midwest well-drilling quote of $148,005 and an approximate $2,000,000 electrical service quote to serve Westfall Place; the council instructed staff to pursue water-capacity-fee inquiries and scheduled a public hearing on water rates for Oct. 21.
At the Sept. 23 meeting, town utility staff and consultants briefed the council on infrastructure needs for the Westfall Place development and water-plant capacity.
Utility representative Max Allen reported the town received an approximate $2,000,000 quote for electrical service to serve Westfall Place. Dan Cutshaw of MS Consulting provided a Peerless Midwest, Inc. quote of $148,005 for well drilling and explained the process for locating a viable water source. Arbor Homes requested a water-plant model study.
The council agreed to revisit the water capacity fee and Sara Fairfield moved to contact Krohn’s with funding to come from the ARPA Fund. Gary Moody also reported a $16,900 quote for a leaf vac and the council authorized its purchase using MVH or ARPA funds. The council will hold a public hearing Oct. 21 on Ordinance 2024-11, which would set rates and charges for the Thorntown Waterworks Utility.
No decisions to commit to the $2,000,000 electrical estimate or the drilling quote were recorded in the minutes; the well-drilling figure was presented for consideration and follow-up.
