North Kingstown School Committee Upholds Termination, Authorizes Counsel to Negotiate Separation

The action came after the committee recessed into executive session under RIGL 42-46-4 and RIGL 42-46-5(a)(1) to discuss matters of job performance and personnel. After returning to open session, the committee disclosed there were no votes taken in executive session and voted to seal the executive-session minutes of the March 11, 2026 special meeting.
The Committee member who made the motion said, "I will make a motion to uphold the superintendent's recommendation for termination and deny the teacher's appeal and to authorize the district's attorney to engage in a conversation regarding a separation agreement based on the terms discussed in executive." The motion was seconded and approved after the chair called for the ayes.
Members also voted to table an agenda item described as an "update [on] administrative leave" for a certified employee; the committee did not take further public action on that update during the meeting. The chair called for citizen comments and none were offered.
The meeting was adjourned after routine closing motions. The committee provided no additional public details about the personnel matter; the district's attorney was authorized to enter discussions about a separation agreement based on terms the committee discussed in executive session.
