Kevin Palki was elected chair of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) Investment Committee at the start of the committee's March 12 meeting, and David Miller was elected vice chair. The nominations were made during the committee's opening agenda item and approved by roll call.
Melissa Willett opened nominations for chair and put forward Kevin Palki; after no further nominations, trustees voted to approve his election. The committee then nominated David Miller for vice chair and approved that selection by roll call. Chair Palki assumed the gavel and presided for the remainder of the session.
The committee took the routine procedural steps that accompany a leadership transition: the chair and vice chair were named, the gavel was transferred, and the committee proceeded to the scheduled executive report and a guest geopolitics briefing. Trustees thanked the outgoing presiding member for conducting the initial proceedings and welcomed the new leadership.
The meeting then continued with the executive report, public comment and a first reading of a major policy restructuring. No substantive policy decisions were made during the leadership votes; those items remained on the agenda for discussion and further readings later in the day and at future meetings.
