Councilmember Mitchell moved to approve the World Cup plan as presented, and Councilmember Caldwell offered an amendment adding a not-to-exceed $100,000 cap funded from council event/discretionary lines (Ward A at-large stage and related council event funds) and requiring a post-action report on expenditures. Council approved the amended motion. Council also directed staff to work with East Point Main Street Association and others on event logistics and community engagement.
Council emphasized transparency about source lines used to pay for the events and asked staff to return with a full accounting of which lines were tapped and what events, if any, are being reduced or canceled to free those funds.
