Monmouth Beach to seek $400,000 county open-space grant for Tachi Avenue boat ramp and kayak launch

At the June meeting the Borough of Monmouth Beach authorized a resolution to apply for Monmouth County Open Space Trust funds to replace the Tachi Street boat ramp, add a floating dock and a kayak launch, and repair the approach and nearby pavement.
A borough staff presenter described a $400,000 grant request with an estimated $100,000 local match; the estimate was drawn from recent costs for similar ramp work. The presenter noted permits, including DEP approval, will be required and said a potential award would likely be announced in September–October and the project would be budgeted into next year’s capital program.
Resident Louise Grama asked whether repaving the entrance and any unforeseen grant 'strings' were covered; the presenter said paving and permitting needs were included in the grant request, but added there can sometimes be additional costs that require attention during implementation.
The council opened the public hearing on the application and after public comment moved and approved the resolution authorizing submission to Monmouth County Open Space. Council members and staff said the work would improve access and address localized deterioration of the approach and ramp area.
Next steps: staff will file the application with Monmouth County and pursue any necessary permits; funding and scheduling will depend on the county’s award timeline.
